Appearance: Tall, slender, and lithe, Lelouch possesses a graceful, artistic figure. Not a single one of his body gestures is lacking a certain amount of theatrical elegance, which is aided through his somewhat effeminate features, intense violet eyes, and long, nimble fingers. His neatly kept, dark hair falls past the back of neck and his complexion is fair. As one who tends to avoid strenuous physical activities, he has no impressive muscle mass to speak of.

Personality: Lelouch seems like an average high school student on the outside, calm and composed yet possessing a brilliant mind that exceeds far beyond any intellect of his peers. In contrast, out on the forefront of his rebellion he’s very cold and calculating, showing no mercy to those that stand in his way and no sincere fondness towards his followers. While willing to do whatever it takes to achieve what he wants, he does still have some issues with the effects his skillfully arranged plans have on the few he really cares about and continually struggles to conceal those feelings lest he show any sort of weakness. His resolute and ambitious drive to change the world comes from his unyielding devotion to his younger sister Nunnally and the murder of his mother, whom he strives to avenge.

While under the effects of his father’s Geass, a special ability entrusted to him through a contract which in this case granted him the power to alter memories, Lelouch remains more or less that same cool, distanced high school student, perhaps a bit more lighthearted and innocent but no less crafty. He, however, harbors a constant sense of anxiousness and unease with the world he lives in, and while willing to help others, he only shows true fondness towards Rolo, his unknowingly false younger brother, and his friends in the Ashford Student Council.

Abilities/Strengths: Most of Lelouch’s strength comes from his superior intelligence and the use of his Geass, which enables him to give undeniable commands to any and all persons of his choosing. It appears as a glowing red, bird-like symbol in his left eye. However, his Geass has certain limitations, the most important being he can only use it on a person once. Commands are given verbally and as long as he’s able to maintain eye contact with the victim, either directly or indirectly, he can issue as many as he wants. The victim must be within 270 meters in order for the Geass to take effect. Commands, while they can be vaguely resisted at first if the command is truly against the victim’s will, are ultimately carried out to the very best of the victim’s ability. In the end, the victim retains no memory of ever being given or carrying out Lelouch’s commands. Usually the Geass is activated solely by Lelouch’s will, however, the more he uses it, the stronger it becomes and eventually he reaches a point where he can’t turn it off, meaning anyone that looks in his eyes is in danger of being affected by his commands, serious or otherwise. Under his father’s Geass, though, Lelouch forgets he has such an ability at all and his Geass remains latent inside him until further notice. Other notable abilities he possess include the skills to operate and fire a gun, as well as pilot a Knightmare Frame. He’s also exceptionally skilled at predicting people’s reactions, psychological manipulation, as well as acting (also read lying).

Weaknesses: Physically, Lelouch’s biggest weakness is his lack of stamina and inability to do anything too labor intensive, mostly due to his bad habit of skipping out on gym classes. Emotionally, his biggest weakness is his handicapped sister Nunnally, whom he refuses to do anything towards that may go agaisnt her will. To a certain extent, his other friends could be considered weaknesses as well, as he’s willing to go out of his way to ensure their safety and hopefully reunite them all when his rebellion is finished. His ego makes it so he is unable to forgive any wrong doing against him until proper vengence is carried about, especially when that wrong doing happens to effect someone close to him.

Notable Possessions: For the purposes of Econtra, the only notable possessions Lelouch has on his person are his cell phone and his wallet, which most likely contains a deck of cards.

History: Lelouch comes from a futuristic world in which the Japanese have been conquered and oppressed by the Holy Britannian Empire with the use of their robotic weapons known as Knightmare Frames. Renamed “Elevens” and banished to the ghettos, the Japanese people struggle to survive with no rights or freedoms, and thus form resistance groups in the hopes of one day overthrowing the Empire.

Lelouch happened to be a member of the Royal family and a distant heir to the throne of Britannia, however that all changed when his mother was assassinated and his sister, Nunally, was blinded and crippled. After the incident, Lelouch confronted his father, the Emperor, about his ignorance to the whole event and threatened to refuse his eventual ascension to the throne. His threat, however, was laughed at and his father stripped him of his status, sending him away to Japan only to use as a convenient political hostage. While in Japan, he stayed at the Kururugi household and met Suzaku who, after a rocky start, he ended up befriending. Eventually, as the Empire began to gain more control over Japan, Lelouch and Nunally had to seek sanctuary elsewhere with the Ashford family. He now resides on the Ashford Academy campus where he also attends high school.

Soon, Lelouch ends up getting caught up in a conflict between the Japanese resistance factions and the Empire, stowing away on a truck supposedly delivering a stolen military secret in a capsule from the Empire. It is during this conflict that Lelouch reunites with Suzaku and meets C.C., the girl locked inside the capsule. She ends up proposing a contract with Lelouch, offering him “The Power of the King”, or the Geass, in exchange for granting her wish, which she does not reveal to him. Using the Geass, which appears as an insignia on his left eye, it allows him to momentarily control people’s minds within certain rules.

Now with this power at his disposal, Lelouch decided to lead a rebellion of his own against the empire, creating an alternate identity he calls “Zero” and concealing his face within an elaborate black mask. He allies himself with his classmate, Kallen, and her resistance group, renaming them “The Order of the Black Knights”. His true motives for his rebellion are to find out the truth behind his mother’s assassination and create a peaceful world that Nunnally can live in.

After multiple victories, which did not come without a price, and gaining the support of the Japanese people, Lelouch believed his dreams of overthrowing the Britannian Empire would soon be in his grasp. However he’s devastated and shocked to find out the single pilot that had been getting in his way with his advanced Knightmare Frame known as the Lancelot was none other than his childhood friend Suzaku, whom he’d hoped of appointing as Nunnally’s “knight” when the time came when Lelouch would be unable to protect her. Instead Suzaku was knighted for his half-sister, Euphemia Li Britannia, one of his royal siblings he actually cared for but was unfortunately part of the Empire he aimed to annihilate. By an unexpected turn of events that landed him on an island with Euphemia, she learns of his identity as Zero and later proposes the Special Administrative Zone of Japan in the hopes of working together with Lelouch to give the Japanese people their freedom back. While initially infuriated with her ignorance about the situation, he reluctantly agrees to work with her in the end. Unfortunately, Lelouch makes the tragic mistake of explaining his Geass to Euphemia which resulted in him unintentionally giving her the command to kill all the Japanese. Distraught by this malfunction in his Geass, Lelouch had to steel himself for the only course of action he could take at that point, and ends up killing her.

The next turning point in his rebellion would be in the form of his confrontation with Suzaku, whom he meets in a cave while searching for Nunnally who’d been recently kidnapped. It is here Suzaku, still enraged with Euphemia’s murder, finally learns of Zero’s identity and after a brief clash between the two, he captures and brings Lelouch before the Emperor. The Emperor, the father Lelouch loathed with every fiber of his being, goes on to erase Lelouch’s memories of three crucial facts with a Geass of his own. From then on, Lelouch lived blissfully unaware of the fact that he was a prince of Britannia, the fact that his younger sister Nunnally existed, and the fact that he was Zero. Rolo, another Geass user trained as an assassin, was assigned to fill the void Nunnally left behind and became Lelouch’s younger brother, ordered to kill the other should he ever regain his memories.

It is under these fake memories that Lelouch is picked up by the Consulo.
